Assessments: The Best Thing Since Sliced Bread

No one asked for sliced bread. But once it arrived, we couldn’t imagine life without it. That’s how I feel about assessments in my coaching practice.
Most people don’t realize how much clarity they’re missing until an assessment gives language to what’s been sitting just under the surface. StrengthsFinder. Everything DiSC. VIA Character Strengths. Emotional Intelligence. They don’t put people in boxes — they reveal patterns. And once you see those patterns, everything shifts.
Self-assessments allow us to create personal insights quickly. They simplify what feels complex. Instead of weeks or months trying to identify what's happening beneath the surface, a well-designed assessment gives us a clear starting point almost immediately. It accelerates awareness and makes coaching conversations sharper and more focused.
Suddenly, a leader understands why conflict drains them. Or why they second-guess decisions. Or how their natural strengths fuel both their success and frustration.
Assessments simplify the complex. They give language to what’s been difficult to name. They spark meaningful conversations, generate better questions, and accelerate growth.
In my coaching practice, assessments don’t replace coaching — they amplify it. They turn vague challenges into clear, actionable insights. They help leaders take ownership of who they are and how they lead.
Much like sliced bread, you don’t realize how much you needed it — until you have it.
